Credited with at least 71 film roles, he was mainly a character actor, often having uncredited roles or playing a character without a name such as a policeman, farmer, or a man in the storekeeper. He was known for his first role in "Allan Quartermain" in 1919, in the 1936 role of a physician in "The Story of Louis Pasteur" and in the 1939 role of Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton in "Lincoln in the White House." Before his death, he had four more roles in 1939 with two being uncredited.
