Melvina Phillips was the daughter of George Washington Phillips and Mary Elizabeth Hughes.

She married Thomas Henry "Tom" Brendle, son of Henry Pierson Brendle and Mary "Patsy" Pilkington, on 30 Oct 1902 in Swain County, NC. Performed by: H.A. Cunningham, Baptist Minister. Andrew Smith, P.H. Mason & W.T. Mason, witnesses. Tom, who was aged 37 at their marriage, was 18-years her senior.

Nervina, as she was commonly known, would die at home in the Alarka Community.

Following the death of Nervina, Tom would remarry on 06 Nov 1929 to Americas (Parker) Burnett aka/ "Merkie", the widow of John Enoch Burnett, in Swain County.

Melvina was 47-years of age.


Note: While her headstone reads N.V. Brendle, her birth name was Melvina Phillips. She was commonly known as Nervina.
