James Rowland Gough, a McKinney attorney, built his residence at 1206 W. Louisiana Street in McKinney in 1898. He served as State Representative and Senator from this area. The house is a good example of the Victorian style with Queen Anne detailing.

He was born in west Collin County. He was a "free silver" advocate.
