Jerry Lewis "Lewie" Ganey, Jr, 29, of Folkston, passed away Wednesday August 3 from injuries sustained in Baghdad, Iraq [Sergeant, 648th Engineer Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade, Georgia Army National Guard, Statesboro, GA, Operation Iraqi Freedom; killed Aug. 3 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his armored personnel carrier as he was conducting a dismounted security patrol in Baghdad]. He was born in Waycross, GA. He graduated from Charlton County High School in 1994. He served in the United States Marine Corps and then joined the Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife: Debra Ganey; a daughter: Vanessa Ganey; a son: Jay Michael Steedley; father: Jerry Lewis Ganey, Sr.; mother: Beth Jones Sandusky; grandparents: Thelma Ganey and Larry & Beulah Jones Strickland; father & mother-in-law: Grady & Sue Walsh; and mother-in-law: Judy Hawkins Walsh SERVICES: The family will receive friends Saturday August 13 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston from 6-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 14 at 3:00 PM at Camp Pinckney Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Coram and Chaplain Don McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Little Phebe Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, GA.
