The body of Ira Franklin Walker, widely known Arizona rancher and Livestock Inspector here for the past five years, will lie in state at the Wickenburg Funeral Home this morning (Thursday). Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., at the Church of Christ with G.B. Huthmacher officiating and burial, with Masonic graveside rites, will be in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
The death of Mr. Walker in St. Luke's Hospital, Phoenix Sunday brought sadness not only to his family, but to his many friends throughout the state of Arizona, in which he was born and spent all of his life.
The son of the late A. G. Walker, prominent rancher and cattleman who was, for many years, superintendent of the Arizona State prison at Florence, Ira was born November 6, 1911 at Klondyke.
The family moved to this area in 1920, ranching in Yavapai County for years. In 1958 Ira Walker bought the Flying W. Ranch at Young, Ariz., which he operated until five years ago when he sold the ranch and moved to Wickenburg, becoming Livestock Inspector for this area at that time.
He was active in the Masonic Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master of Hassayampa Lodge No. 37 last year until stricken in the late November.
He is survived by his wife Alice Bernice (Bunny); a son Tom in the Air Force and stationed at Chanute Field, Illinois; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Hollen of Glendale, Calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. Cassie George and Mrs. Ora Gray of Wickenburg; Mrs. Thelma Vensel of Mesa; Mrs. Violet Lawson, Claypool, and Mrs. Irene Nord, Phoenix. Two grandchildren also survive.
