Johann Georg was born to Heinrich Hohnstein and Elisabeth Gobel in Norka, Russia. His parents had 6 children together. There were three with same first name of Elisabeth.

George Hohnstein and his wife, Margaretha "Margaret" Treber/Truber came from Norka, Russia. Norka is by the Volga river. They were Germans from Russia. They came with one daughter Maggie and pregnant with another Lena. They had 7 for children but there's a record of a child but don't know if Konrad died in Russia or when came to America. They arrived in New York in June of 1891. The Hohnstein's dropped one H to be more American. He was a trash hauler and died at work. They lived in a section of Denver called Globeville. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery on Aug. 8, 1919. The children were: Margaret "Maggie", Lena, John, Emma, Henry, Louis "Louie" and Adam. Konrad would be in between Maggie and Lena.
