Mary Pack (aka Mary Gafford, Schoolman, Buck) passed away on 1 March 2007 at home, with her loving family at her side, after a long, courageous battle with COPD. She was born on May 30, 1928 in Hobart, OK. Mary was a life member of the VFW Auxilliary Tillicum 2329. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She began that membership at Faith Chapter in Parkland, and moved her membership to Wheatland Chapter in California when she moved to that area. Mary and Delbert returned to the Tacoma area in 2005 to be close to her children. She leaves her loving and devoted husband, Delbert, children; Melvin Monroe of Quilcene, Catrina Christopher (Tom) of Tacoma, Georgia Ramlo of Puyallup, Tom Gafford (Tia) of Spanaway, and Teri Wilson (Danny) of Mountain City, NV; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Anita Nichols, grandson Tom Christopher, Jr, a brother Leroy Vicars, and 2 husbands. Special thanks to Franciscan Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Mary. Mary asked that any donations be made to any Veteran organization or to Franciscan Hospice. Viewing will be held on Monday, 5 Feb. from 4-8PM. Services will be held at Dryer Mortuary on Tuesday, 6 March at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following. Graveside service will be at 2:00PM at New Tacoma Cemetery.
