Doris McGee, 84, a former Rose Creek resident, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 12, 2000 at the Bear Creek Care Center in Rochester.
Doris was born to Sebastian I. and Edith E. (Belmer) Palmer on March 27, 1915 in Ceylon, Minn. She later graduated from Ceylon High School as valedictorian. On April 6, 1935, she was united in marriage with to Emmett McGee at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Austin until 1947 when they purchased a home in Clayton Township near Taopi, Minn.
After retiring, they made their home in Rose Creek and in 1992, they moved to what is now Bear Creek Care Center in Rochester.
Her husband worked for more than 38 years at Hormel Foods in Austin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1993.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. She belonged to the Friendly Garden Club and received many awards for her flower arrangements. She enjoyed candlemaking, writing poetry and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Joseph and Dorothy McGee, Kenyon; four daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy (Lawrence) Theobald, Adams, Nadine Spencer, Thornton, Colo., Jan (Mike) Seidel, Herbster, Wis., Pamela (Mrs. Patrick) Schultz, St. Croix Falls, Wis.; stepsons Gerald McGee, Rochester, Charles McGee, Richland, Wash.; stepdaughters Katie (Mrs. Everett) Hays, Austin, Rita Hummel, Bloomington; 23 grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Ruth (Mrs. Morris) Wicks, Custer, S.D.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Emmett McGee; daughter Jacqueline; stepdaughter Mercedes; two grandsons; four brothers, three sisters.
Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Ruben Spinler officiating.
Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery.
Visitation: There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service at Mayer Funeral Home on Friday where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
