Elsie Marie Murray age 95 of Edina, Missouri formerly of the Locust Hill Community of Knox County passed away Wednesday evening, August 25, 2004 at the Knox County Nursing Home at Edina, Missouri.
Born March 28, 1909 on a farm south of Hurdland, Missouri, she was the daughter of Lewis M. and Sarah Belle (Welsh) Shearer.
She was united in marriage to Guy Hiram Murray on January 14, 1930 at Edina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1962.
Surviving are one son, Jim Murray and his wife, Doris of Novelty, Missouri; four grandchildren: Candy Phillips and her husband, Tom of LaPlata, Missouri, Mike Murray and his wife, Carla of Rogers, Arkansas, Matt Murray and his wife, Lori of Novelty, Missouri and Dianna Otto and her husband, Willard of Leonard, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Alaina Murray of Kirksville, Missouri, Jonathan and Benjamin Murray of Rogers, Arkansas, and Tyler, Nolan and Whitney Otto of Leonard, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Earnest (Jean) Shearer of Spokane, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Charles Lee Murray, two brothers, Earnest and Lee Shearer and one sister, Sadie Scott.
Mrs. Murray attended Mt. Vernon Rural Elementary School and Hurdland High School in Knox County.
Elsie, while living on a farm near the Locust Hill Community where she and her family resided always raised a big garden and did lots of canning. She also raised lots of chickens and sold hatching eggs to Berry's Hatchery in Quincy, Illinois for several years. In 1962 she moved to Edina where she worked at McKay's Pharmacy for twelve years, retiring in 1975. December of 2001 she moved to the Knox County Residential Care Facility and then in September of 2003 she moved to the nursing home. Elsie was a member of the Locust Hill Community Church.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2004 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Reverend Allen Davidson will officiate the services. Wynona Banks, soloist and Ed Anderson, organist will provide the music. Vocal selections will be "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset."
Burial will be at the Locust Hill Cemetery, West of Novelty, Missouri. Casket bearers will be Stanley Bowen, Ray Griffith, Jeff Smith, Dennis Bradley, C. Von Snow and Leon Murray.
Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home Edina, Missouri.
