Judy Barton died peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her home in Monticello, UT.
She was born on November 24, 1954 in Monticello; the second of five children of Francis and Iris Barton. She spent her childhood growing up enjoying the sights and life of the local area.
Her sweet and infectious personality blessed her with many lifelong friends and acquaintances. Judy was educated in the public schools of Monticello, graduating from Monticello High School with the class of 1973.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and subsequently her Masters of Education from Utah State University. She was currently pursuing a Doctorate degree.
Judy taught English and History courses in junior and senior high school for 36 years; three years in Milford, UT and 33 years in Monticello.
She loved her occupation. Judy loved teaching others the joy of learning. She spent countless hours and resources helping her students to better themselves and build promising futures; the first to arrive and last to leave each day; instilling in them the desire to reach their full potential and to become good citizens.
She enjoyed the association of her students and fellow educators.
Judy loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the world. She organized 17 trips to Washington, D.C. with her students and acted as an academic advisor on numerous educational pursuits and outings. She loved and passionately taught the importance of the classical arts, political science and the history of our country.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Judy served in numerous capacities and callings; one of her favorites being Gospel Doctrine teacher in the Monticello Fourth Ward. She had a deep knowledge and an unwavering testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Judy relished spending time with her family; especially doting on her nieces and nephews in their activities; celebrating in their achievements.
Her family will continue to be blessed by her many gifts and talents she shared including; sewing, cooking, gardening, decorating and music.
She was especially gifted as the support system that held our family fibers together. She is her mother's best friend.
She is survived by her parents, Joseph Francis and Iris T. Barton of Monticello; siblings Bonnie (John) Roberts of Tabiona, UT; Stephen (Debra) Barton of Monticello; Charles Barton of Monticello; Kitty (Jeff) Young of Henefer, UT; 19 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews, all who dearly love her.
Funeral services are Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Monticello North LDS Chapel at noon; with a viewing from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Interment at the Monticello City Cemetery
