Richard Herbert Johnson, 84, of Alfred, passed away on Tuesday August 9, 2005 at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. He was born in Berwick on November 5, 1920 a son of Dana C. and Carrie (Ridlon) Johnson.

He graduated from Alfred High School. He then served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific.

An avid hunter he was proud of the trophy bull moose shot in 1996. He was a lifelong learner, intensely curious about a wide range of topics from history to science which led him to be a great conversationalist.

He worked many years in construction and later as a mechanic.

He was a 50 year member of the Alfred Fraternal Lodge, 40 year member of the Alfred Fire Dept., serving as Assistant Chief and a 50 year member of the Brown Emmons American Legion Post# 134.

He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Harry Johnson and D. Elwyn Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie L. (Smith) Johnson of Alfred, two daughters, Sheryl Johnson Davis and her husband Richard of Lamoine, Corlys Johnson Marzullo and her husband, Tom of Bristol, CT, twin brother, Albert E. Johnson of Alfred, grandchildren, Richard Davis II and family of Duxbury, MA, Kathy Davis Partridge and family of Bar Harbor, Gary Davis and daughter of Ft. Meyers, FL, Sarah Marzullo O'Brien of Anchorage, Alaska, Rachel Marzullo of Denver, CO,as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday August 13 at 1pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main Street in Springvale, with Rev Les Pettit officiating, followed by services with members of the Alfred Fraternal Lodge and the Brown Emmons American Legion Post.
