Rev. Lloyd Herman Patterson age 93 of the Red Bud Community, Gordon County, Georgia passed away August 3, 2013 following a period of declining health.

He was born and raised in the Big Ridge District of Pickens County, Georgia son of the late Arthur Hugh and Lula Belle (Carroll) Patterson.

He served with the 3rd Armored Division in Europe during World War II, earning Five Campaign Stars.

He and Lillie Gay Cordell were married in 1947 and they moved to Gordon County in 1952. He was a farmer and a retired textile maintenance foreman. Rev. Patterson was baptized into the fellowship of Ball Creek Baptist Church of Pickens County, Georgia in 1936 and remained a faithful member until his death. He was ordained a deacon in 1957 and a Baptist Minister in 1962. He served as pastor of eleven Baptist Churches in Gordon, Whitfield, Gilmer and Pickens Counties. Rev. Patterson was an old time foot-washing Baptist preacher, who preached the Gospel of Christ to a gain saying world without fear or favor of man. He sought no worldly fame or riches but labored to warn the people to flee God's wrath to come. He stood squarely upon the teachings, principles and doctrine of the New Testament.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Rev. Luther, Arthur Lee, Elbert and Rev. Alfred Patterson also by four sisters: Lois Carver, Faye Clark, Geraldine Johnson and Odelle Silver. Survivors include the following: his wife Lillie Gay Patterson of the home, son and daughter in law Steve and Jean Patterson of Rome, Georgia; three daughters and sons in law: Linda and Garry Prather, Barbara and Jimmy Pate, and Joan and Gary Sutherland all of Calhoun; six grandchildren: Nathan Patterson, Julie Privett, Jeremy Pate, Elaine Hite, Alex Sutherland, and Katie Sutherland; Eight great grandchildren: Rebecca, Ashley, and Hunter Privett; Thomas and Clara Patterson; Lillie and Dawson Pate; and Adeline Hite. Two sisters survive, Ella Patterson of Calhoun, Georgia, and Gladys Jones of Marietta, Georgia also one sister and brother in law Ruth and Sonny Garlin of Calhoun, Georgia. A brother in law and sister in law Junior and Naomi Cordell, a brother in law Dean Cordell all of Ballground, Georgia, and sister in law Annie Lou Henderson of Jasper, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 2pm Tuesday August 6, 2013 at the Ball Creek Baptist Church in Pickens County, Georgia with Rev. Wallace Parks, Rev. Eugene Childers and Rev. Thomas Wheeler officiating. Interment will be in the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Gordon County. Pallbearers are Garry Prather, Jimmy Pate, Gary Sutherland, Nathan Patterson, Jeremy Pate and Alex Sutherland.
