Manitowoc Marine Killed in Vietnam
Lance Cpl. Dale Tegelman, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell H. Tegelman, of 3807
Ray St. was killed in action in the Da Nang area, Vietnam, Monday, his parents
were notified Tuesday by the Marine Corps commandant.
The telegram from the commandant said the Manitowoc serviceman died from enemy
gunshot wounds in the neck.
Tegelman, who had been overseas since Dec. 15, 1965, had been wounded in the
left hand and neck by fragmentation while participating in an operation against
hostile forces in the vicinity of Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, July 18, 1966.
Combat Veteran
The combat veteran was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines.
A captain and a noncommissioned officer from the Marine Corps Reserve at Green
Bay, first notified Tegelman's parents of their son's death, about noon Tuesday.
The telegram was received later in the day.
A June, 1965, graduate of Lincoln High School, Tegelman entered the corps July 6
of that year, under the 120-day delay enlistment program, and was trained at San
Diego and Camp Pendleton, Calif.
The local serviceman earned paratrooper wings upon completeing six jumps while
in training.
Tegelman was born May 19, 1947, at Oshkosh, son of Russell H. and Georgiana Wells
Tegelman, of Rt. 2, Omro, and came to Manitowoc with his parents when he was three
years old. His father is employed by Lakeside Packing Co. as a field man.
Attended Lincoln High
Dale attended Franklin School, Washington Junior High School and Lincoln High School.
He was a member of the Cub and Boy Scout units sponsored at Franklin School.
Survivors in addition to his parents, four brothers, (private), who is serving in
an intelligence communications unit in Morocco, Africa; and (private): the paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tegelman Sr., of Winneconne and the maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald O'Reilly, of Omro. (continued on M-11)

Funeral services for Lance Cpl. Dale F. Tegelman, 20, of 3807 Ray St., Manitowoc,
who was killed July 17 in action in the Da Nang area in Vietnam, were at 9:30 a.m.
Friday ath the Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Richard Heyman officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
A contingent from the U.S. Marine Reserve Center at Green Bay in charge of Capt. M.E.
Brown served as pallbearers. They were the First Sgt. R. Wolfcale, Gy. Sgt. G.B.
McDonald, Third Sgt. G.H. Westcott, Cpl. R.W.Grezenz, Gy. Sgt. M.G. Mason and Pfc. K.A.
Kohlmen.
