Born 1921 in Troy, Doniphan, Kansas. Son of Robert G. Larzelere and Fredrick F. Larzelere. Grew up in Kansas with his younger brother Richard Larzelere.

He graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree. Attended the University of California Medical School, San Francisco and received his Doctor of Medicine degree. Specialized in the field of Internal Medicine, served as a medical doctor in this capacity for 16 years. Practiced medicine in Berkeley, California. Resided in Oakland, California in 1957.

Dr. Larzelere took a course taught by Werner Erhard through the Mind Dynamics organization. In 1972, Dr. Larzelere became a member of the est (Erhard Seminars Training) organization founded by Werner Erhard. Dr. Larzelere ceased working in his medical practice and sold his house in Berkeley, California and moved to San Francisco, California in order to be closer to the est organization activities.

Werner Erhard appointed Dr. Larzelere as Director of the "Well Being Department" at est. William Warren Bartley wrote "For Robert Larzelere, M.D." in the dedication of his 1978 biography about the est founder, Werner Erhard: The Transformation of a Man, the Founding of Est. He was a member of the staff of est until he resigned in January 1980.

He authored the book The Harmony of Love in 1982.

Dr. Larzelere appeared on the 60 Minutes investigative program titled "Werner Erhard" which was broadcast on CBS on March 3, 1991. The program was produced by David Gelber. Dr. Larzelere was interviewed by journalist Ed Bradley of CBS News.

Exactly one year later on March 3, 1992, Dr. Larzelere was named as one of several defendants in the lawsuit against CBS News by Werner Erhard, Werner Erhard vs. Columbia Broadcasting System. Werner Erhard was represented by his lawyer Walter Maksym. On May 21, 1992 Walter Maksym filed a motion to dismiss on behalf of his client.

In 1993, St. Martin's Press published the biography Outrageous Betrayal: The Dark Journey of Werner Erhard from est to Exile by legal journalist Steven Pressman, which details Dr. Larzelere's activities in the est organization on behalf of Werner Erhard.
