Helen Olivia (Johnson) Ires, 81, a former resident of West Lafayette, died a 1:18 PM Saturday, May 25, 1996, in Gentle Care of Lafayette. She was born Jan. 6, 1915, in Roseau, MN. Her first marriage was to Wendell H. Washburn; he preceded her in death. She was married to Ira H. Ires on July 13, 1951, in Fairfield, IL; he died Aug. 10, 1957.

Mrs. Ires moved to Lafayette from Haubstadt, IN, in 1966, and to West Lafayette in 1969, where she owned and operated a rooming house for Purdue University students from 1969 until 1994. She graduated with a degree in teaching from a college in Tulsa, OK, and was a former teacher at St. Lawrence Catholic School. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary (Mrs. John) Logan of Logansport; two sons, Charles Washburn and Wendell Washburn, both of Lafayette; two grandsons, John Logan, Jr. and Christopher Whiteley; and eleven brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Washburn, and her parents.
