Joseph Hilliard Jr. was born to Thelma Bynum Hilliard and the late Joseph Hilliard Sr. on May 7, 1954 in Wilson. Joe as he was affectionately known to family and dear friends was called home to eternal rest on Saturday, July 31, 2010. He spent his formative years in Wilson and was graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School. He received his BA Degree in physical education from Shaw University, Raleigh. Joe was employed with Wilson County Schools for over 30 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sheila S. Hilliard of the home; his children, Tonya R. Hilliard of Southport, Joseph Hilliard III (Alisha) of Charlotte, Quashawn Anderson of Maryland, Terrell Hilliard, Andre Hilliard and Brandon Atkinson, all of Wilson; one stepson, Jules Solomon of Durham; his mother, Thelma Bynum Hilliard of Wilson; six sisters, Gayle A. Taylor of Philadelphia, Cynthia Hilliard-Woodard (Roscoe), Stacy Hilliard-King (Alton), Paula Hilliard-Small (Tim), Wanda Hilliard-Hinton (Vincent) and Marquitta Cannady, all of Wilson; two brothers, Robert Cook and Terry B. Hilliard, both of Wilson; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carrons Funeral Home, 325 E. Nash St., Wilson. The family will receive friends at all times at the residence, 2303 Shreve St. SW, Wilson, and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
