It is possible that his actual name is John William Frederick Argyle.

According to parish records, he married Mary Jane Mortimer in April 1860 in Leicester, England. He made it known to his American family that he was from Leicester, England. The few parish records and those of Mary's family and newspaper articles confirms this relationship. Mary was unstable and Frederick left her in 1867 and then for the US (exact travel date unknown at this time-still researching). She was committed to an asylum in 1872 due to being abandoned and having mental issues; and, problems with stealing from Frederick (1867) and her father. It is not known if she was stealing from anyone else. One now wonders if his disappearance from his family in the US had anything to do with her death and hope for possible settlement from her father's estate who was a dental surgeon and was also the registrar for Leicester. For what ever reason he returned to Leicester, confirmed by his grandaughter and various records, leaving a wife and eight children behind with no real explanation.

Frederick abandoned his American family in 1894, the youngest of his children was less than two years old. As a Freemason member, local lodges did an extensive search looking for him at the time of his disapearance through out the many other lodges with no success.
