Francis A. Ariens, 90, died peacefully on February 2, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born July 26, 1909, to Henry and Christina Jansen Ariens. He was the youngest of three Ariens sons who worked with their father and were the early pioneers in starting the Brillion Iron Works in Brillion.
On August 24, 1940, Francis married Georgia Galloway. They were gift- ed with 59 years together and contributed in many ways to the community.

The Ariens fancily, including Henry and his sons, Steve, Leon and Francis, started the Ariens Company in 1933. The business has grown over the succeeding 67 years as one of the nation's premier outdoor power equipment manufacturers.

Francis Ariens held several positions in the Ariens Company including Vice President-Manufacturing, Vice President-Service and Secretary of the Corporation. Francis had a strong commitment to servicing the customer and was honored in 1983 for his contribution in building one of industry's best service training facilities at the Ariens downtown plant.

Francis guided the work of the Ariens Foundation for many years. The Foundation supports numerous charitable causes and provides scholar- ships to area students pursuing college and technical school education. Francis worked at Ariens into his late 70's but continued to be active in Foundation activities and on the Ariens Board of Directors.

Francis A. Ariens was a man of integrity, loved by his peers for his quiet strength and gentle spirit. Throughout his business life he stood for quality, constancy and fair dealing. We celebrate and give thanks for the life and spirit of Francis Ariens.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, of Garrow Villa, Brillion, and by two nieces, four nephews and 29 grand nieces and grand nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sat., Feb. 5, 2000 at Faith United Methodist Church in Brillion. The Rev. Norman Bude was the officiant. Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery.
Memorials can be given to the Ariens Foundation LTD for scholar- ships in his name.
