The funeral service for retired carburetor plant worker James Robert Conger of Pairs will be at 10 AM Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Frank Hickman, preacher of Redemption Ministry, where Conger was a member, and Marty Arnold, preacher of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Chosen as pallbearers are grandsons: James David Conger Jr., Michael and Rob Bennett and, David, Brian and Tyrell Conger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hart, his granddaughters and the 1944 Class of Grove High School.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday and after 9 AM Saturday.

Conger, 85, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his residence.

His wife, Pauline Polly Robinson Conger, survives. They were married April 20, 1946.

Born Aug. 4, 1924, in Benton, Ky., he was a son of the late Josiah and Nellie Ruth Greene Conger.

A World War II veteran, Conger also served with the Army National Guard. He had 21 total years of service. He retired from Holley carburetor plant and formerly served as president of the local United Auto Workers union. A family member said he was an avid camper, fisherman, gardener and woodworker.

He also leaves one daughter: Mary Ruth Conger of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two sons: Larry Mitchell (Sharon) Conger and John Richard (Rhonda) Conger, both of Paris; two sisters: Lucille Parrish and Martha (Henry) Hobby, both of Paris; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and eight step-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter: Rebecca Joyce Bennett on Jan. 1, 1979; two sons: James David Conger on Sept. 6, 1976, and Paul Fredrick Conger on March 16, 2008; one brother: William Joseph Conger; and a grandson: Sammy Butler.
