A DOUBLE FUNERAL
Death of Captain and Mrs. John N.Harding, Formerly of Wareham
Captain John N. Harding, a former resident of Wareham, died at his home in Valley Stream, Long Island, on Sunday, after a short illness from pneumonia. Captain Harding was the son of Captain John and Phoebe Harding and was born in Wareham 75 years ago. He married Miss Nellie Whitney of Providence, and with his family removed from here about 15 years ago. He followed the calling of his father and was a well known sea captain, sailing on the coaster "Argo", which was owned by Captain Gurney and engaged in carrying grain for the A.S. Gurney Co. He was a respected citizen of the town during this 50 years' residence, and was an attendant of the Methodist church. He was jovial and genial, of a pleasant and easy-going disposition and is favorably remembered by some of the older residents who were his boyhood playmates and companions. He was an admirable host and the opportunity he gave his townsmen to sail with him to New York were gladly accepted and enjoyed. To this account must be added an event of unusual sadness. The widow of Captain Harding, accompanied by two of her sons and Captain Carter, a brother-in-law, started with the remains for Wareham on Tuesday afternoon, and en route to the boat, Mrs. Harding became very ill, was removed in an ambulance to a New York hospital and died there on Wednesday. The remains of Captain Harding arrived here on Wednesday morning and the body of his widow was brought here this morning. The double funeral will be held at the Methodist church and burial will be in the Centre cemetery. The immediate relatives are three sons in New York State, one daughter, Mrs. Curtis Styles of New Bedford, one brother, William F. Harding of Wareham, and two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Hamblin of New Bedford and Mrs. P.D. Carter of Long Island.

Captain Harding died on Monday, in Hemptead, of pneumonia.
