Mother Rosa Bell Benjamin Dixon, of 106 Shaw St., Bishopville, answered the Master's call to "Come Home" on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at McCoy Nursing Home, Bishopville.
She was born March 10, 1924, to the late Sollie and Rachel Williams Benjamin.
Mother Dixon was educated in the public schools of Lee County.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and later joined Browntown Temple Holiness Church. She faithfully served as president of the ushers' ministry, pastor's aide and many other ministries in her church. Her favorite saying was "I'd rather wear out than rust out."
On Jan. 29, 1951, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Burl Dixon. To this union, seven children were born. Mother Dixon was a bold soldier for the Lord. She worked with the Council on Aging for 15 years. She also volunteered with the American Cancer Society.
She leaves to cherish her memories: five sons, Willie Lee Dixon of Paterson, N.J., Elder Nathaniel (Mary) Dixon, Jeremiah (Janie) Dixon and Hallie Dixon, all of Bishopville, and Jessie (Wendy) Dixon of Darlington; two daughters, Shirley (Ronnie) Kelly of Hartsville and Sylestine Dixon of the home; one adopted daughter, Lynette (Anthony) Emanuel of Florence; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucile B. Roberts of Edison, N.J.; three sisters-in-law, Louise Benjamin and Alma Dixon, both of Bishopville, and Marie Dixon of Baltimore, Md.; a special cousin, Janie Jefferson of Bishopville; two special friends, Creola Simon and Mother Lucile March, both of Bishopville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
