Major League Baseball Player. Ray played shortstop for six major league teams in a career that spanned 13 seasons. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a scout for the Boston Red Sox from 1961 until 1991. He was the father of major league player and manager Bob Boone, and the grandfather of major league players Aaron Boone and Bret Boone. He died from a heart attack after being hospitalized five months due to complications of surgery for stomach and internal problems.
