OBITUARY-
John Anthony Wendel, 78, of Waverly, formerly of Rose Creek, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at his home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Rose Creek, to Joseph B. and Theresa (Schauls) Wendel.
On June 5, 1950, he married Barbara Joyce Norton at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
John worked as an inspector for Thermo King.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wendel, Waverly; children, Sandra Williams, Waverly; Steven Wendel, Waverly; Susan (Doug) Mingo, O'Fallon, Mo.; Catherine Skaret, Minneapolis; Lisa (David) Ghostley, Waverly; Carol (Roger) Remer, Waverly; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Wendel; sisters, Catherine "Cel" Allen, Eleanore Winkels, Elizabeth Hackenmiller and Florence Phillips.
Visitation: Was held for one hour before the service.
Service: Was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004, at the funeral home with Father Ruben Spinler officiating. Casket bearers were Chris Williams, Tony Mingo, Jeff Remer, Roger Remer, David Ghostley and Ric Olson.
Interment: Grandview Cemetery.
Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.
