PEORIA - Dorothy Nye Sours, age 100, of Peoria passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Proctor Place in Peoria.
Dorothy was born on July 1, 1913, in Olney, Ill., to Arthur Logan and Lotta Nye (Gray) Adamson. She married Dr. James W. Sours on May 11, 1963. He preceded her in death in November 1974. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one stepdaughter, Louise Tabor; and her brothers, Arthur Gray Adamson, William Adamson and Richard Adamson.
Dorothy is survived by her stepdaughter, Marjorie Willadsen of Peoria; five grandchildren, Michael Krumpe, Andrew (Carla) Krumpe, Anna Krumpe, Alan (Carole) Willadsen and Tom (Mary) Willadsen; and three nieces, Sandy (Ed) Welsh, Sue (Glenn) Fritz and Linda (Buddy) Taylor.
Dorothy graduated from Manual High School in 1930, from Bradley Polytechnic Institute in 1934 with a bachelor's degree and from Bradley University in 1951 with a master's degree. She was the assistant registrar for Bradley University from 1935 to 1943 and was the assistant county superintendent of schools from 1943 to 1963. Dorothy was an Honorary Life Member of the AAUW; King's Daughters; the Peoria Historical Society; the Peoria Area, Illinois and National Retired Teachers Association; Lakeview Museum; Sigma Kappa; Delta Gamma; Pi Lambda Theta; Delta Theta Tau; and Pi Gamma Mu.
She was also a member of Bradley Epworth Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees.A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. The Rev. Tom Eckhardt will be officiating. Memorials may be made to Bradley Epworth Church or Proctor Place.
