It's description is "A Concise History of the State from it's Earliest Settlement to the Present Date; Together with "Biographical Sketches of Many of the Leading Families of CENTRAL TEXAS." It indicates John C was born in Granbury, Hood County, the son of "one of the most successful farmers and stockmen of the county. His father was born in Lavaca county, Texas, forty-six years ago, and has been raised and educated in this state. His father, William Tandy, the grandfather of our subject, was a Kentuckian by birth and came to Texas in 1846. The mother of our subject was before her marriage Rebecca Stribling, was a native of South Carolina and a member of one of the historic families of that state. She died in December, 1873, leaving two children, our subject John Clark, and a brother, David Sloan"

James Addison Tandy was the son of William Mills Tandy and Mariah Elizabeth Stribling.
Mariah was the daughter of Benhamin Haile Stribling and Ruth Bradley Greenwood. They were from SC although Mariah was born in AL.
