Sharon A. Strong, age 74, of Kearney died, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at her home in Kearney. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will be at Almeria Cemetery near Almeria, NE at 3:00 p.m. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Sharon was born on April 5, 1939 in Johnson County, Missouri, near Odessa to William Lester and Antha (Goings) Silas. She attended school in Axtell and Kearney before graduating from Kearney High School. She then attended Kearney State College and received her Bachelor's of Science in 1961. She married Howard Strong on May 29, 1960 in Kearney. She taught school in Gibbon, the YRTC in Kearney and Loup County. Sharon was involved extensively in speech communication in the 70's, 80's, and 90's in the counseling department at Kearney State College. "From the Womb to the Tomb", her favorite quote, is what she aspired to teach. She was an active member and past president of the Jr. Women's club. She and Howard were co-founders of the Friendship Club at First United Methodist Church. Together they also managed Strong Built Homes, Strong Apartments and Strong Farms Inc. She also worked at the Area Agency on Aging. Sharon was active in FHA, Boy Scouts and Bible School. She was forever dedicated to her family and played a large role in raising her 4 grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Howard of Kearney; Daughter, LeAnne Strong of Kearney; Grandchildren, Haley Strong of Kearney, Reed Burr of Kearney, Jackson Brown of North Platte and Riann Strong of Kearney; Sister, Carol Jean Maul of Kearney; 4 Great Grandchildren
Sharon was preceded in death by her Son, Craig Strong and her parents.
