BROCK Timothy C. Brock, 74, of Columbus, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at home. He was born August 10, 1935 in Milwaukee. Tim grew up in New York City, where he graduated from Regis High School and Fordham University. He earned his Ph.D. in social psychology from Yale University in 1960. Tim also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and the Free University in Berlin. He taught at the University of Pittsburgh and Iowa State before joining the psychology faculty at Ohio State in 1964. At OSU he founded a doctoral training program in social psychology which, from 1968 to today, has been internationally acclaimed. His 46-year career included several books, e.g., Narrative Impact and two editions of Persuasion, hundreds of scholarly articles and invited papers and leadership roles in many professional organizations. Tim was a cherished mentor to many students. His favorite games at home were tennis, Scrabble, chess, super-ghost, open-face card games.
Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Harriet Brock.
Tim will be missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon; children, Lisa Brock, Greg (Jane Page) Brock, Valerie (Tim Mansell) Brock, and Ian (Kerry Jeffords) Brock; grandchildren, Beki, Alex, and Vicki Prybell, James and Sarah Brock, Claire, Emily, and Benny Mansell; sister, Chloe Foote; and brother, James Brock. Family will receive friends Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 28, at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St., Columbus. Fr. G. Michael Gribble, Celebrant. Inurnment to be held at a later date in Hartford, WI.
