Edward Thomas McDonnell played Major Mudd, the beloved host of The Major Mudd Show, the long-running New England kids show (1961-1975) that featured cartoons and Three Stooges shorts. This led to his appearance - along with other kids show hosts of the time - in the later Three Stooges film The Outlaws is Coming. Ed was also the voice of the puppet horror movie host Feep on Fantasmic Features. Later in the early 70's, the Major Mudd Show became Skittle Alley. Ed McDonnell passed away due to kidney failure brought on by diabetes in 1979.
OK, gang, let's sing the Major Mudd theme!
"With an I and a B and a B and a Y
Means 'I'll Be Blasting You!'
We'll take a trip In a rocket ship
Up in the sky so blue!
With Major Mudd
In the Nervous One
Means lots of fun for you--
With an I and a B and a B and a Y
Means 'I'll Be Blasting YOUUUUU!'"
The "Major Mudd" Show song was the Parade of the Clowns written and performed by David Rose and His Orchestra.
