The Maury County native was the son of the late George Garner and Alice Holden Garner. He was a 1960 graduate of Hampshire High School where he played basketball and baseball. Mr. Garner was employed at Ted's Sporting Goods in downtown Columbia for fifty years and became a partner in the business. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a wonderful father and husband. He was a member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon.
