She was born June 21, 1919, in Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter of the late Reete L. and Cerelda (Senz) Hargrove.

She married Robert E. Benner in 1944. He died in 1974. They enjoyed 30 years of marriage.

Mrs. Benner enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WACs) in 1943 and served during World War II.

She was employed as a secretary at her church and for federal governmental agencies in both Virginia and New York. She spent her married life in Queens Village, N.Y.

Mrs. Benner was an active member of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.

She volunteered with the Union County American Red Cross and served on the East Buffalo Township Board of Elections. She was a member of the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post 182 Auxiliary, Lewisburg, and a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. She was a member of the Mixers and attended the Institute for Lifelong Learning at Susquehanna University.

Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne B. Yost of Lewisburg; one grandchild, Alison C. Yost of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Cerelda Burroughs of Fairfax, Va.; one niece; three nephews; her beloved poodle, Midge; and her many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Shows.

A graveside service was held with her nephew, the Rev. Dr. Robert Leibold, officiating.
