Chapman I. "Chappy" Piggott, 87, of Lafayette, died at 12:10 PM Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at George Davis Manor, West Lafayette. Born June 3, 1918, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late George C. and Grace Burgess Piggott. He graduated from Jefferson High School. His wife, Elizabeth Jane "Bettie" McGrath, survives.

Mr. Piggott was a machinist mate first class in the Navy, serving from 1942 to 1945. He was a machinist for the Monon and L&N railroads for more than 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, a 39-year member of American Legion Post 11, and a member of International Association of Machinists, and Old Rails. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Surviving with his wife are four sons, William Piggott (wife: Charlotte) of Danville, IL, Michael Piggott (wife: Judy) of Shawnee, OK, Timothy Piggott (wife: Jane) of Dubuque, IA, and Patrick Piggott of Delphi; and a daughter, Jane Toliver (husband: Kirk) of West Lafayette; 16 grandchildren, Lezlie, Michael, Kelsey, Brooks, T.J., Sarah, Lindsay, Ashley, Tammy, Heather, Shad, Tricia, James, Travis, Chris, Julieanne; 15 great-grandchildren, Brant, Shae, Sylvia, Elizabeth, Julie, Nora, Abigail, Owen, Kenny, Braydon, Eden, Brianne, Kayla, Rainy, Parker. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, Genevieve Fellows and Marjorie Powell.

Visitation 5-7 PM Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with rosary service at 4:45 PM and Old Rails service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Father Jeff Martin officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
