Obituary:
Mrs. Charlotte Wallace Sutton, 73, a resident of Britthaven of Washington and a former resident of 1794 John Small Ave. Washington, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Britthaven Nursing Home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Paul Funeral Home chapel in Washington with pastor Phillip Jethro officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington.
Grandsons and nephew, Tommy Ormond, Timmy Griekspoor, Nicky Hopkins, Michael Woolard, Timmy Woolard, David Wallace and Neal Woolard will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Sutton was born in Beaufort County on March 3, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel "Lawrence" and Lollie Whitaker Wallace. She was a lifelong resident of Washington. She married James Henry Woolard in 1952. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Sutton later married Plum Jasper Sutton, who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1999. She attended Pinetown School. She was a seamstress, craft decorator and a hairdresser for 28 years until her health failed her in 2000. She was a past member of several square-dancing clubs, including Original Washington Square Dancers, Greenville Tar River Twirlers and New Bern Tryon Twirlers. She was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Woolard Ormond and her husband Thomas of Bath and Anita Sutton Bridgman and her husband Colin of Pamlico Beach; four sons, Alton N. Woolard Sr. of Greenville, Preston H. Woolard Sr. of Casbell, Ariz., Dwain R. Woolard and wife Melody and Rex A. Woolard and wife Sherry all of Washington; one brother, Harley Wallace of Washington; one sister, Julia Woolard of Portly Richly, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, Tommy Ormond and wife Shelia, Nicole Griekspoor and husband Timmy, and Pepper Ormond, all of Bath, Crystal Hopkins and husband Nicky of Washington, Neil Woolard and wife Rhonda, and Sarah Woolard, all of Greenville, Jennifer Woolard and P.J. Woolard, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Justin Woolard and wife Candice, of Boise, Idaho, Coty Woolard, Dillon Woolard, Dana Woolard, Jessica Woolard and Chris Woolard, all of Washington; nine step-grandchildren, Michael Woolard and his wife Jodie, Timmy Woolard and wife Melissa, Allen Woolard and wife Jamie, Angie Harrison and husband Scott, and Bill Woolard, all of Washington, Heath Bridgman and wife DeDe, and Jennifer Hopkins and husband Ronnie, all of Pamlico Beach, Jeffrey Woolard and wife Wendy of Virginia Beach, Va., and Joan Woolard of Pinetown; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by one grandson, Bryan Woolard; one stepson, John Henry Woolard; and one step-grandson, David Woolard.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Sutton's son, Dwain R. Woolard, 103 Hillcrest Drive, Washington.
Arrangements are being handled by Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
