Joe A. Schafer, 55, of 1356 Orr Road, Sycamore, died at 10:57 p.m. Wednesday in Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
He was born in Lykens Township to Robert Schafer, who survives in rural Sycamore, and Dortha (Spayth) Schafer, who preceded him in death. He was married March 20, 1964, to Sandra L. Jackson, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Mrs. Preston (Tamria) Risner of Carey, Michelle Schafer, at home, and Brad Schafer of rural Sycamore, two grandchildren, Olivia and Grant Risner, and three brothers, Richard Schafer and Steve Schafer of rural Sycamore and Mike Schafer of rural Bloomville.
A 1961 graduate of Lykens High School, Mr. Schafer was a farmer and former owner of Tri-City Motors, Bucyrus. He was a member of Baseline United Church of Christ, Indian Mill Antique Association, Crawford Antique Machinery Association, Central Ohio Antique Tractor Pullers Association and the Ohio State Antique Tractor Pullers Association.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Burial will be in Baseline United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Heart Association or Ohio State University Cardiac Care Unit.
