I, in_memory of grandma, did not find information about Josiah's family on www.PilgrimHopkins.com beyond just his marriage to Anna Pierce. However, I did find information about his family on the two family trees that I used.

"Josiah Hopkins, Sr. (son of Sylvanus Hopkins and Ruth Berry) was born 28 Jul 1754 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA, and died 26 Oct 1824 in Cornwall, Litchfield Co., CT.

He married Anna Pierce on 08 Aug 1776 in Cornwall, Litchfield Co., CT, daughter of Joshua Pierce, Jr and Amy Johnson."

Note:   There are some outstanding questions about this man. I hope to find some kind of more detailed biography in the future. One question is his title. We do know that he was listed as a Private for his services in the American Revolutionary war. Still, one death certificate lists him as a captain. Thus it would be good to know if perhaps he had an occupation as a captain of a private ship. Another certificate lists him as a deacon. So at this point, I'm going to leave off titles, but just know that deacon & captain could very well be valid titles or him. Note that all the records have the same birth year, death date, an death city...

Children of Josiah Hopkins, Sr and Anna Pierce are:

  1) Josiah Hopkins, Jr.
(07 Feb 1778, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
17 Jul   1841, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT)

  2) Samuel Hopkins
(03 Nov 1780, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
            Nov 1834, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT)

  3) Anna Hopkins
      (29 Dec 1782 to ... )

  4) Freeman Hopkins
(29 Dec 1782, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
11 Mar 1858, Belpre, Washington, OH)
Note: I'm pretty confident that this is the correct Freeman as if you take his death date, and the age at death, it equals this correct birth date. This Freeman was also born in CT in the census. There is also a Josiah R Hopkins buried there too. If that is his son, he could have named him after his father. The 1830 census does list two males born in the 1820's, and neither show up in the 1840 census. I'm still investigating this Freeman further to help confirm.

  5) John Hopkins
(25 Oct 1785, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
31 Dec 1836 Portage Co., OH)

  6) Heman Hopkins
(07 Apr 1788, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
21 Sep 1861, Portage Co., OH)
Note: I'm pretty confident that this is the correct Heman, The records indicate he was born 7-April, but the headstone supposedly states 1-April

  7) Luman Hopkins
(26 Aug 1792, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
12 Feb 1876, Nelson, Portage Co., OH)

  8) Rosseter Hopkins
(20 Apr 1794, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
12 Jun 1829, Portage Co., OH)

  9) Dr. Hezekiah Palmer Hopkins
(02 Apr 1796, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
22 Sep 1828, Nelson, Portage, OH)

10) Julian Pierce HOPKINS
(Note: Records indicated the first name of Johne, but headstone indicates the name was Julian.)
(24 Jul  1800, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT,
          Feb 1801, Cornwall, Litchfield, CT)
