Mr. Shannon "Shagg" Franklin, of the Brooks Bend community, died in the Emergency Room of Lane Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge in East Baton Rouge County, Louisiana at 5:25 a.m. Sunday morning, August 4, 2013, at the age of 35. At the time of his death, he was residing at Progressive at Seaside in Zachary, Louisiana. The Baton Rouge Medical Examiners Office ruled his death from pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home by Bro. Jeff Burton on Friday afternoon, August 9th. Following the 3 p.m. services, burial was in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. Born Shannon Brian Franklin in Carthage on August 11, 1977, he was the son of Larry Odell "Curly" Franklin and Robbie June Givens Franklin, of the Brooks Bend community. A brother, Jason Charles Lee, preceded him in death at the age of 35 on May 6, 2007. Mr. Franklin attended Smith County High School. He was formerly employed at the Moss Service and Supply Co. in Carthage as a plumber and electrician. Having never married, Mr. Franklin is survived in addition to his parents by two sisters: Rita Davis and husband, Warren, of Murfreesboro, Linda Lee Caruthers, of Cookeville and a brother: Clyde Lee, of Gordonsville.
