Nichols, New York: Donald B. DeWitt, 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Don was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Allen; two brothers, Fredrick DeWitt, Howard DeWitt. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia DeWitt; their children, Bob (Betsy) James, Nichols, Robin James, Nichols, Rick (Deneen) James, Nichols; eleven grandchildren, Nicholas James, Doug James, Kristen James (Eddie) Meyers, Angela Swagler, Kristofer (Christine) Swagler, Jamie Swagler, Richard Swagler, Connor Swagler, Alexis Swagler, Brandi Norris, Brian Norris; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vivian DeWitt; several nieces and nephews. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the U.S.S. Norton Sound. Don worked for many local monument dealers and later owned and operated DeWitt Monument Service. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Church and the Owego Moose Lodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego with the Rev. William Moorby, officiating. Burial will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY.
