Marvin Acheles Warner, 85, of Nancy, Ky., passed away on Monday August 5, 2013 at Somerwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born January 18, 1928 to the late Hobert and Allie Warner.

He was a 1947 graduate of Nancy High School. He received his Associate Degree from Lindsey Wilson College where he excelled in basketball having received a full scholarship to play. He served in the U.S. Army 1952-1954 at Fort Meade, Maryland and attained the status of Supply Sergeant. Marvin received his Bachelors Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1957.

Marvin was a teacher in the Pulaski County School System for over 30 years. He began his career in small one room school houses in Western Pulaski County and taught at Nancy High School until consolidation of schools took place. He finished his last year as the Health and PE teacher at Nancy Elementary. In his many years at Nancy, he coached basketball, baseball and was the class sponsor. He also was a referee for several years. Marvin was a former member of Sardis United Methodist Church where he had served as Chairman of the Board and also taught Sunday school before transferring to First United Methodist Church of Somerset to be with his grandchildren. He was also a past Boy Scout leader.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Williams Warner. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Alderdice of Somerset, and Libby Veling (and Gordon) of Stuart, Fla.; six grandchildren, Dr. Ben (and Erin) Alderice Jr., Lauren (and Nathan) Ridgway, Whitney Alderdice, Hilary Veling, Gordon H. Veling Jr. and Warner Veling; three great-grandchildren, Bennett Alderdice, Harrison Alderdice, and Silas Ridgway.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Ben Alderdice Jr., Gordon H. Veling Jr., Warner Veling, Nathan Ridgway, Jason Hughes, and Nolan Bruner.

Honorary pallbearers will be local first cousins Vertrees Warner, Richard Warner, Lois Scrimager, and Herman Schoolcraft.

Visitation will be held Friday July 9 at Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m.

The service will be held Saturday July 10 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating.

Burial will be immediately following the service at White Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kentucky United Methodist Children's Home, Bethany House or the charity closest to your heart.
