Prof., retd. He was a veteran fighter-pilot of WWII P-51s and a flight instructor during the Korean conflict. Before embarking on his teaching career he was a bi-plane crop duster. Later while at Foothill Jr. College he was an instructor of aerobatics for a time at the San Jose Airport flight school.
Born June 11, 1921 at Spokane WA and died August 27, 2004 in Auburn CA. Duane was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Lorraine Agnes Chamberlain, who attained her pilots license under his instruction, and then accepted his proposal of marriage. They had 2 daughters. He was an active member of Q.B. and OX5.
QB is for Quiet Birdmen and OX5 is a very unique reciprocating engine which just a handful of pilots had access to and one of whom was Duane. Chuck Yeager (the test pilot) was in that group, as was General Jimmy Doolittle. bio added by Aritha Buss.
