MOCKSVILLE - Mrs. Bobbie Jean Smith Andrews, 76, of Wandering Lane, Mocksville, passed away Thursday evening, May 19, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for eight weeks. Mrs. Andrews was born in the Sheffield community of Davie County to the late William Wade and Mary Holland Wright Smith. She graduated from high school at Peace Junior College in Raleigh and received an associate business degree from Averette College in Danville, Va. In 1949, she married Victor Lee Andrews Jr. Nineteen years later their beloved daughter, Clara Holland, "Holly," was born. Mrs. Andrews was actively involved in various social, political, educational and religious aspects of the community. She was the first female to be elected to public office in Davie County, serving on the Davie County School Board for two terms. Mrs. Andrews worked alongside her husband in his dental practice until their retirement in 1988. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Victor L. Andrews Jr.; a daughter, Clara Holland "Holly" Sinopoli of Mocksville; two sisters, Marietta Smith Seats and Colean Smith Foster, both of Mocksville; two grandchildren, Nick and Victoria Sinopoli; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, May 22, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Van Lankford officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to First Baptist Church, 390 N. Main St., Mocksville, NC 27028.
