Jack Dempsey Sims was born on December 20, 1920. He was born in Frisco City AL, which, in 1920, was called Jones Mills AL. He was the son of William Alonzo "Lon" Sims and Ellen Elizabeth Sawyer. His maternal grandfather, William "Bill" M. Sawyer, was the brother of Burney Sawyer, the founder of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.

After Mr. Sims attended Frisco City High School, he joined the Air Force where he had a 23-year career; he retired from the Air Force in 1962. In 1941 he married Dorothy Sawyer. While in the Air Force he was a Master Sergeant who served in Germany, British Guiana, and the Philippines. He was a B-26 Crew Chief. Jack also served in the Korean conflict and more than 50 years after this conflict he was awarded the Korean War Service Medal. After his Air Force career, Mr. Sims worked off shore for Chevron Oil, and he later also retired from that position.

He was a loyal University of Alabama sports fan, loved watching old movies, and especially enjoyed Lorrie Morgan's singing and Glenn Miller's music. He was passionate about Alabama football.

Mr. Sims is survived by: his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Sawyer Sims, former mayor of Frisco City; one son, Steven Sims, of Demopolis AL; three daughters, Jacquelyn (Neil) Jones, of Pensacola, FL, Virginia (Mike) Hudson of Frisco City and Elizabeth Sims, of Frisco City. He also is survived by three granddaughters: Sharon Kennedy, of Brewton, AL, Stephanie Triplett of Savannah, GA, and Mici Kuba of Pensacola, FL; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sims died at his home in Frisco City AL on January 13, 2014, and he was interred on January 15, 2014, at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Frisco City.
