Obituary, St Augustine Record, August 7, 2013
Garrett Monroe Jones, 13, of St. Augustine, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Folkston, Ga., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born and grew up in Jacksonville where he attended Assumption Catholic School and Assumption Catholic Church.

He moved to St. Augustine in 2008, and was a student at Gamble Rogers Middle School and a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Garrett was a thoughtful and intelligent young man and was enrolled in the I.B. (International Baccalaureate) Honors Program at Gamble Rogers. He played football for the Junior Falcons through the South Menendez Athletic Association.

He loved playing video games and all outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, surfing, and hanging out with the "32080 Beach Club." Garrett had a very loving and easy going personality and will be remembered as a "gentle and sweet soul." Most of all he loved his family, especially adoring our newest member, baby Jayce. He was Jayce"s guardian angel on earth, and is surely an angel in heaven. Garrett touched so many lives and now that he is back in God"s arms, his memory will eternally, and forevermore, live in our hearts.

He is survived by his parents, Brett and Jenni Jones of St. Augustine; his big sisters, Brittany Jones and Kelsey Jones, both of St. Augustine; nephew, Jayce Jones of St. Augustine; paternal grandparents, Gary and Beverly Jones of Fitzgerald, Ga. (formerly of Jacksonville); paternal great-grandmother, Nellie Jones of Fitzgerald, Ga. (formerly of Jacksonville); maternal grandmother, Eleanor Bird of Jacksonville; aunt, Amber Jones May; uncle, Mike May; uncle, Jack Bird; cousins, Dillon and Miranda May, John and Troy Bird, all of Jacksonville; and many, many extended aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
