ABBEVILLE…Aaron L. Barnes, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013. He was 87.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 8, 2013, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Quincey and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Henry Reynolds, 3945 County Road 40, Newville, AL 36353 or the Fellowship Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353.

Mr. Barnes was born and reared in the Capps Community, son of the late Ewell Norman Barnes and Ouida Danzey Barnes. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Barnes lived in Abbeville all his adult lifetime and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He and his wife formerly owned and operated Barnes Grocery & Market and later White's Home & Auto, both in Abbeville. Mr. Barnes also retired as a school bus driver for the Henry County Board of Education. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara McKnight Barnes; a sister, Sara Nell Richardson; four brothers, Howard Barnes, Earl Barnes, Bennie Ewell Barnes, and Charles Barnes.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Patricia Ann Weaver (Russell K), Gulf Breeze, FL; two sons, Curt Barnes (Marilyn), Dothan, Keith Barnes (Debbie), Capps, AL; two brothers, David Barnes (Glenda), and Frank Barnes, all of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, Michael Weaver (Kandice), Jason Weaver (Emily), Adam Jones (Pam), Aaron Jones (Carrie), Jessica Barnes, Sarah Barnes, and Lauren Barnes; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Randy Barnes, Bill Barnes, Gene Barnes, Larry Barnes, Kevin Barnes, and Robert Hutto.
