Lew graduated from Pittsford High School, and he served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1958. He began his career farming and working at Allied Products in Hillsdale. In 1966, he was one of the founding partners of R.C. Plastics in Hillsdale, later becoming the sole proprietor. For nearly 45 years, Lew operated the company which continues today in second generation family ownership. He was an avid woodworker and craftsman, creating many custom wood heirlooms. Lew also enjoyed being outdoors, cutting wood, gardening, and canning. Together with his wife Sharon, Lew enjoyed spending 25 years wintering in Fort Myers, Florida and taking many family vacations to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Sharon Cox, Lew is survived by son, Terry (Danielle Crawford) of Osseo; four grandchildren, Jamie, Jenna, Reese, and Ryan Cox and daughter-in-law, Julie Cox of Hillsdale.
Lew was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Valerie Cox; son, Gregory Cox; sister, Elaine Draggoo and daughter-in-law, Kristy Cox.
Funeral services for Lewis "Lew" Cox will be held Sunday, August 22, 2021, at 3:00 PM at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Sean Willman officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Private family interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale.
