Jim was shot several times during the battle of Inchon Reservoir while saving peoples' lives then he was taken POW and while on the march to China had lost so much blood he passed out on the road and rolled down into a ditch and was left for dead. Later he was rescued when the Americans came back through. Before the war he was planning to go to medical school but after the war said he'd seen enough blood, horror, and death to last a lifetime.
In the mid and late 1950's he was into driving his race car 00. He also went to school for drafting after the war and owned a construction business.
He was survived by 5 children; Donald Earl Armstrong, Debra Ann Armstrong Peaugh, Randal Keith Armstrong (U.S. Navy Veteran of 17 years), Lisa Rene Armstrong Miller, and Vicki Lynn Armstrong Johnson and 6 Grand-Children; Justin Michael Armstrong, Bradley Keith Armstrong, Courtney Suzan Peaugh, Jeremy Keith Armstrong, Sarah Anne Bickett, And Morgan Grant Johnson and 2 Step Grand-Children Spencer Lee Peaugh and Corey Peaugh.
