He married Mary Alice America Jacobs, 6 Jan 1874, in Sacred Heart Ch, Morgan City, LA. Mar License, 2 Jan 1874, in Franklin, St Mary Par, LA.
Ernest (E.) together with his brother Paul (P. R.) owned Glencoe Plantation in the lower part of St Mary Parish. In November 1884 the Plantation was seized and sold by the Sheriff of the Parish to satisfy mortgages, taxes and other debts. Ref: Vol W, Page 18, #7878, entry 15484 of 19th Jud. Dist. Court Parish of St Mary, Pharr vs Bowman's, Nov 5?, 1884. copy/R Jobes.
Tradition indicates Ernest succumbed to the hardship of the 1882 flood although it was several years before his death. The loss of their Plantation was the year before his death; there were two more children born after the flood - the last, a year before his death.

"After 1882 high water grandpa (&) grandma Bowman and four children came to Jeanerette Feb 1- 1883. While waiting for the boat to bring their few worldly possessions left by the high water. They lived with grandma Moore in front of the Catholic Church for a month. Grandpa Moore carved a toy for Mama from a nut I still have it - This house was torn down Aug 1 - 1962 after 92 years." {The Mama here is "Bessie" Toland and the Moors are from Martha Ann S. Jacobs remarriage to Lewis Moore.}

They lived not far from a community established by a Captain Patterson about mid 1830's with lumber mill - first Catholic Church 1848. It is conjecture that Ernest was buried here 1885 in the Catholic church cemetery {now called St Joseph's} although no stone or confirmation has been found.

She had daughter Kitty Reed Stagg Buswell with 2 children, Joe lived in LA.
