DoLores M. Snyder, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, Atlantic, IA.
DoLores (Lori) Marie Snyder was born March 18, 1933, the second daughter of Roy Samuel and Mary Lucille (Marcum) McNutt in McCook, Nebraska. She attended Red Willow County rural schools and McCook Jr. and Sr. High Schools, graduating in 1950. She attended McCook College studying elementary teaching, with a minor in state and local government. Lori was a certified Librarian. She was employed by State Farm Insurance for 16 years, Glenwood State Hospital-School for 6 years and Cass County Memorial Hospital for 27 years.
Lori served as District 7 President of the American Legion Auxiliary, and State President of the Iowa Admitting Association. She served on the Brayton City Council for 9 years and was Mayor for 5 years. Lori served on the Salem Lutheran Foundation Board for many years. She was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church and served two terms of the Brayton Lutheran Church Council. She was an active member and past president of the Brayton Woman of the ELCA.
Lori and Jens Hansen were married December 15, 1976 and they made their home in Brayton. He passed away May 18, 2001.
Lori married Merle A. Snyder in Indianapolis, IN, November 7, 2005 and they made their home in Anita and Atlantic, IA.
Lori enjoyed crocheting and genealogy. She was thrilled each time she located a new family member and contacted them. She was devoted to her family. She was very selfless and did everything for her family
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jens Hansen, husband Merle Snyder, brothers Murel McNutt and Gerald McNutt, sister LaVerne Marie, brother-in-law Ottas Tyson, sister-in-law Shirley McNutt, two step-grandchildren and adopted daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wickizer..
Survived by adopted daughter Mary Lynette and her husband Shon Young of Lewis, IA; step daughters, Patricia Hansen of Atlantic and Joni Bieker of Wiota, IA; step-sons, Julian (Barb) Snyder and Merlin Snyder both of Indianapolis and Gary Snyder (Marla) of Columbus, Indiana; brother Harold (Kae) McNutt of Kearney; sister Rita Ann of Blackfoot, Idaho; sisters-in-law Mary McNutt of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Helen McNutt of McCook, Nebraska; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm at the start of visitation on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton, Iowa.
