Hugh, Sr.'s family were all "Page Pioneers", the 8th family to arrive in 1957, helping to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona.

Hugh Pollard, Sr., 87, formerly of Corsicana, Texas, died of a stroke on September 27, 1962, in Page, Arizona.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. from the First Christian church in Page. Military graveside services were conducted by the American Legion. Pollard had resided at Page for five years and was a security guard for Merritt-Chapman and Scott. Prior to that time, he was a cook at Lake Mohave, Arizona for four years. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a son, Hugh Edward, Jr. '65; and two daughters, Dorothy Ann '67 and Linda Susan Pollard '71, all of Page; two sisters, Mrs. W. S. Gordon and Mrs. Joe Riley, both of Dallas, TX; a brother, Roland Pollard, Lubbock, TX; and other relatives. Pollard was active in the Johnson-Wiggins Post No. 22, American Legion post of Corsicana, Texas, and was connected with the Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana for many years.

Son of James Edwin Pollard and Ada Belle Cooper.

June 5, 1917, 610 Avenue D, San Antonio, Texas, when he registered for WWI Draft, Hugh was 21, medium height and build, black hair, brown eyes, no baldness, had two brothers under 12 dependent on him, and was married to Jimmie Kate Foster, 14, (born 15 Jan 1903, Corsicana, TX), daughter of William Foster & Jennie Barker Church. Hugh was a Marker in a Laundry for C.S. Wommock, 617 Cherry Street, San Antonio, TX.

Hugh served in WWI from Texas, enlisting June 28, 1918 and discharged January 23, 1919 as a SGT, QMC (Quartermaster Corps), School for Bakers & Cooks, Camp MacArthur, TX,

His military gravestone was received in Page by American Legion Post #73, and Page Cemetery was called "American Legion Cemetery", Page, Arizona on the application.

In 1926, Hugh had been married about nine years to Jimmie Kate (Foster) Pollard and worked as a Helper, Collin Street Bakery; their residence at 1201 W. 14th Avenue, Corsicana, Texas, with younger brother George & their widowed mother, Ada Pollard. Younger brother, Homer (Carrie) Pollard, Salesman at same bakery, lived nearby at 1100 W. 14th Ave.

In 1924, Hugh and Jimmie were living at 634 N 10th, Corsicana, Texas, and he and Homer were both working as a Salesmen at Collin Street Bakery. Their widowed mother was living in her own home at 512 N. 11th.
