Barry was serving in the US Army, before going into extended active service and arrived in Vietnam 26 August 1970, where he was assigned to B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, USARV. B Company was on a patrol 10 kilometers south of Phong Dien. A hostile booby-trapped explosive device was detonated and Barry from fragmentation wounds to the body from the explosion.
Survived by his parents, Col Harold E Bowman and Jeanne K Bowman of 10 Mulberry Court, Delmont, California.
