He was a native of Montgomery County and was Montgomery County's oldest citizen. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ivey B. Pitman, Mrs. Juanita Williams, both of Uvalda, and Mrs. Theresa Tomlinson of Vidalia; six sons, Lanier, Alva, Carl, Hardwick and John R. Adams, Jr., all of Uvalda, and Guy Adams of Perry; 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Charlotte Methodist Church in Uvalda, with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery near Lumber City.
Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge.
