HARLOW, Ralph
Ralph Harlow passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 in his home with Jean, his wife of 58 1/2 years, and his oldest granddaughter at his bedside. He had celebrated his 95th birthday four weeks earlier at home with a gathering of family from several states, including his son, John Bedell Harlow from Texas, and daughter, Meg Harlow Frink from CA. He had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ralph was, an educator most of his life, both formally as a credentialed teacher and informally for the Boy Scouts of America and several churches where his family worshipped.

Ralph was born in Rhode Island and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He loved music and was a violinist in his high school orchestra in Indianapolis and community orchestras in Anaheim, Chico and the Camellia Symphony in Sacramento. In Indiana, Ralph was active in Boy Scouts as a Pack Leader and Eagle Scout and was a Scout Master in Altadena, CA. He soloed in a small airplane at age 18. His passion for aeronautics led him to California where he was a design draftsman for several large aircraft companies. Ralph and his family moved to northern California in 1961. He earned his Teaching Credential from Chico State University and taught in the Yuba City area and Bangor. He and his wife taught Sunday school at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico. In Sacramento he worked for Penny's and Newberg Hardware. He was very active in Westminster Presbyterian Church as a Deacon, tenor in the Chancel Choir, and ringer in the Hand Bell Choir.
